Doughheads 24 Hour Mountain Bike Challenge

'Riding 24 hours on a mountain bike through the bush sounds fun? Well throw in only eating Doughheads' Donuts and riding a few laps with mates and we have ourselves a great time.' - Joel Hudson

We're so excited to be teaming up with Joel who has committed himself to the very tough feat of riding the Holmesville mountain bike track for 24 hours straight eating nothing but our OG and Cinnamon doughnuts.

You may be asking yourself, ‘Why on earth would Joel do such a thing?’
Well it’s all in the name of raising awareness and funds for Aspect, a National not for profit organisation helping people of all ages on the Autism spectrum.
‘Aspect’s vision is to provide the best possible opportunities for people on the spectrum. We believe that people on the autism spectrum are a different brilliant®.’
A cause very close to Joel’s heart as his 3 year old son Ruben is on the Autism spectrum.

Mountain biking isn’t new to Joel. He’s just qualified for the world championships and is often found riding the many tracks around Newcastle in his spare time. So why not just have a race day or a fundraising sausage sizzle at the track with the community? Joel wanted to do something that would mentally challenge himself in order to bring awareness to what his son Ruben and others on the spectrum face every day. Though he knows the challenges he’ll face on the ride won’t even come close, he wanted to do something a little bigger.

The 24 hour challenge will take place at Holmesville bike track with Joel’s first lap to start at 5pm on Friday 12th. He’ll then continue completing laps of the track throughout the night and all of Saturday until the the challenge is complete at 5pm with nothing but Doughheads doughnuts as fuel!
There’ll be support crew on the sidelines and friends and family joining Joel on the track throughout to keep his spirits high. Joel mentioned one of the biggest challenges he’ll face (besides the spiders!) is zoning out and getting tired, so it’s the chats with fellow riders that will get him through - even during daylight! Joel encourages and welcomes anyone to get involved and join him for a lap on the track at any point throughout the challenge.

To further help celebrate and raise awareness, we here at Doughheads have created a special doughnut inspired by Ruben and his love for musk sticks! Named ‘Ruben’s Doughnut’ not only is the doughie musky and delicious, 50c from every doughnut sold will be donated to Joel’s campaign! So be sure to grab a 6 pack to take to the track to enjoy as you cheer Joel on!
